The spring holiday season is about to hit us in full swing and we would be lying if we said we haven’t been planning themed tablescapes all winter long! Now that it is an appropriate time to start planning, here are some ideas we came up with for potential parties this spring.
St. Patrick's Day
This is a holiday where you can get creative with recipes and drinks, but decor comes pretty naturally! Stock up on your St. Patrick's Day party supplies, some gold coins, four-leaf clovers, and leprechaun-themed accessories will do the trick!
Given that this holiday is notably wild and fun, toss it all on your tablescape among some of your favorite serveware and neutral place settings. Some show stoppers that we always like to break out when hosting include our bar-height natural teak wood table, woven barstools, wood platters, and pedestals to make our food and beverages stand out.
If you're asking yourself what kind of food should I make for my St. Patrick's Day party?
Here's a few recipes that we were eager to serve guests: reuben sliders, espresso martinis (go ahead add some Baileys Irish Cream too!), Irish mimosas, otherwise known as green cocktails.
Easter Sunday Brunch
We know everyone is always on the hunt for the perfect Easter egg decor ideas for their Easter celebration, but instead of waking up and lining the breakfast table with peeps, jelly beans, and stuffed bunnies, maybe try something a little different and plan a way to have a memorable Easter morning brunch!
Food and drinks are a great way to bring the table to life. Introduce pops of color with a carrot cake, orange juice or mimosas, and spring-inspired macarons from a local bakery.
Vintage High Tea Time Party
While this isn’t a holiday, we like to act like it is. Vintage tea parties seem to be all the rage right now, and we are so happy that they are! It’s a great opportunity to invite over loved ones and spend some intentional time together over a beautiful tablescape.
We drew a lot of inspiration from our unique tea cups, mugs, and tea pot, which inspired more vintage-styled tea party decor, including fancy tea time hats and gloves.
Wood platters and bowls accentuated the delicate details and were perfect to display our high tea time menu: macarons, cucumber sandwiches, veggies, and a charcuterie board. Our tea of choice was butterfly pea tea. Pinkies up!

There’s no better way to take advantage of good weather than to set yourself up to enjoy numerous evenings out on your patio. Invite some friends over for a classy evening with wine and cheese, or decide to take some time to yourself. Either way, we have some tips for how to take full advantage of your outdoor area.
1. Stylish and Sustainable Furniture
This is the key ingredient for spicing up your patio! We styled our space with some unique and comfortable woven chairs, settee, and brought them all together with a beautiful terrazzo coffee table. Make the space cozy by placing it all on a neutral outdoor rug.
2. Decorative Touches
When it comes to applying decor to a patio, be intentional so that it adds practicality to the space. Throw pillows, blankets and stylish storage baskets are a great way to start!
Each of these can be used to enhance overall comfort throughout your evening, and immediately elevate the cozy factor.
3. Drink Selection and Finger Foods
While this can vary based on personal taste, you typically can't go wrong with a meat and cheese selection to pair with a favorite wine.
If hosting friends turns into a long evening, go the extra mile by having a simple dessert platter on deck such as a stoneware smores selection kept fresh with a beautiful dome.

If you are anything like us, you are enjoying your summer, but are already looking forward to hosting more events in the coming seasons. So naturally we are coming up with our best tips to transition your summer tablescape to being host-ready for fall!
When putting together a table for a seasonal party we always have a few key things in mind that never change, making it easier than ever to make a smooth shift to each time of the year. Here are some factors you will always see on our dining table:
Centerpiece
We like to make a statement. And the centerpiece doesn’t just refer to the seasonal florals in the middle of the table, it's all of the visual elements you decide to include as decor along the center of your table. Besides a vase filled with florals or stems to add some height and drama, we always rely on assorted candlelight for our dinner parties. Some of our favorites include unique votives such as a dimpled glass for summer and a creative metal tree for fall.
Out of the Box Serveware
Get creative in the way you display your food! We loved styling some favorite fruits on coastal inspired platters or in wood bowls for summer, and doing individual charcuterie boards on stone plates for fall. Don't forget your chargers, these are a crucial element to your tablescape that can really show off the theme that you're going for. For summer we wanted a tropical vibe, utilizing our balihai collection of placemats and runners. For fall, we did a quick swap and added our stone plates in under a basic black plate. Playing into natural and sustainable elements like this can bring your dinner party to the next level.
Utilize Seasonal Colors
Go all in on your color scheme to make every seasonal get together feel like a holiday! We featured bright blues and greens to pair with our summer citrus, and maximized on warm tones for fall such as yellow and orange. Bring in some color with dinner napkins, florals, the food itself, or fun statements like a table runner.

After over a year of people spending more time at home, we thought we would get creative in how we utilize our space to maximize relaxation and achieve an overall good vibe! Updating a traditional library to have some modern flare was the perfect way to reset and take advantage of a great space.
Keep the Bones
A lot of what can bring personality to a home comes from what was there all along. Working with the bones of your space can accentuate the character that is just dying to be recognized! We loved using these classic bookshelves and original wood as a backdrop to our new oasis. Even playing off of the tradition and decorating with beautiful timeless paintings and sprinkling in some candlesticks and modern metal lanterns seemingly celebrated the history of this room. A great foundation to build off of!
Keep it Natural
Focusing on the pieces that you add to a space to make sure they create a unified look is now easier than ever. How? The increased demand for beautiful, natural, and sustainable furniture and decor. Something that we believe our texxture line does best. We love how our woven lounge chair brought a modern twist to such a traditional backdrop. In addition, adding practical decor such as our pouf (which works wonderfully as an additional seat or side table), storagebaskets for your favorite throw blanket or records/magazines, and of course, comfy pillows. All of these elements work together to create a universal space that is easy to utilize in many ways.
Keep it Simple
When working to combine traditional and modern elements, less is more. Don’t feel the need to fill every corner, let the main pieces speak for themselves. You will be thankful for the fresh spin on the room with minimal effort. Simply just grab yourself your favorite beverage, turn on some soft music, sit back and dive head first into the next book on your reading list.

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/how-to-incorporate-greenery-around-the-home2021-07-26T12:00:01-05:002021-07-26T12:00:01-05:00How to Incorporate Plants Around the HomeEmilee Miller
One of our favorite trends that has been circulating over the past few years is an increased desire to add greenery throughout the home Not only does this encourage sustainable living by limiting the amount of fast fashion decor, but it creates an atmosphere that promotes a fresh and simple way of life. Whether you have a green thumb and want every corner covered in plants, or would love to pace yourself by tending to one or two around the house, we’ve got you covered on creating ways to display your fresh friends!
There are many questions you can ask before choosing how to decorate with plants or greenery. In this dining scene, we were intentional to choose tall palm leaves to add height to an otherwise empty corner. Placing palm leaves into a glass vase allowed us to keep the clean and bright look of the room without adding something heavy and dark to the bright corner.
Choose Your Favorite Spaces Typically we like to spend our time in clean, open, and well-lit spaces. Conveniently, plants feel the same way! Identifying areas with those characteristics is a great way to ensure that:
One, that your plant can thrive & two, that you can enjoy it.
Choose a Purpose Most times when we select a space for our plants it is a very intentional decision. For instance, from a decorative standpoint are you wanting to:
1. Fill an Empty Space? 2. Add Height? 3. Add a Pop of Color? Light/dark? 4. Bring some life to an otherwise dead space? 5. To grow fresh herbs?
Choose Different Ways to Present Your Plants One of our favorite parts about decorating homes with natural elements such as plants is the variety of ways to display them. Some of our favorites include:
We specifically love styling our plants that have a purpose beyond looks! Growing an herb garden has never been easier or more stylish than the units that Watex Green Living provides. Whether you want to style it on a back patio or screen porch, it allows for an impressive variety of plants that can be personalized to your specific needs. Hosting season is upon us and we could not be more excited. Summer brings so many opportunities to take advantage of nice weather, beautiful landscape, and good company. For that reason, we wanted to show you how to best kick off the season with brunch in the backyard.
Set the Scene Furniture makes a big difference when creating an outdoor scene. Go outside the box from a classic picnic table set and have fun with pieces like our terrazzo table and woven bistro chairs. These types of pieces immediately elevate a look and make everything come together beautifully (with minimal effort).
If you aren’t confident in your outdoor furniture situation quite yet, then set up a linen tablecloth and pillow scene for your guests to enjoy! It will be a unique and picturesque experience.
Set the Table
Thinking through the classic table setting can feel repetitive, so switch it up with some bright colors and fun materials! We love how our wood bowls pair with our thick recycled glassserveware and drinkware. Styling some bright napkins to compliment our fresh-squeezed orange juice (in our convenient and simply stunning drink holder) gave our table an extra pop! Keep it simple and light by topping off the table with some dried palms in a glass vase.
Colors and Elements When planning a summer get-together, there is no such thing as too much color. But let the food that you choose do the heavy lifting! For instance, displaying citrus fruits can be a great way to add some flare to an otherwise bland table setting (or in our case, floor setting!). Natural wood pieces such as our serving boards can make those natural colors pop, and are a convenient way to display photo-worthy charcuterie and desserts. Lastly, take it to the next level by investing in a unique, but versatile tea set. It adds so much personality to the party and guests will be more than thrilled to help themselves to a drink.
Styling a corner with florals and greenery can also make the space feel even more like a sanctuary. Be sure to add in some wovenbaskets for added warmth.

If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that a home office is something we should consider pouring some energy into. Because you never know when you are going to need it! With that in mind, we teamed up with some of our friends to design a functional, unique, and inspired space that you can look forward to working in!
Statement Wall
Instead of zooming into your next meeting with your bed headboard or messy house as the background (we have all done it), make a statement with Wall Blush wallpaper! We chose one of our favorite designs, Wild Blues, to bring our home office some life and could not be happier with the result. The wallpaper was near effortless to put on and makes a world of a difference in the overall feel of any space.
Cozy Factor
Even though we were aiming to create a professional environment, this room is slipper-friendly! So why not add some other cozy elements to make it a more inviting and producing space. Our friends from RugsUSA made a huge difference in our space with their 5x8 Light Pink Paddle Area Rug. It’s a great way to soften the look of harsh wood floors or carpeting, based on the space you’re working with, and add a pop of color! The soft pink paired so nicely with our statement wall. We also decided to add some functional seating with our wood and wicker bench, topped with some of our new, natural-colored pillows. Whether you invite someone in for a meeting or need a fresh space to work on your laptop, adding more seating is always a must!
Storage
With an office comes paperwork, office supplies, and all sorts of other things that need to be stored. We were excited to add in two meshworks shelves from Design Ideas to provide both function and fun! The pink went perfectly with our rug and was a great contrast with our statement wall. And then there are the little things! Paper and mail found a great spot on one of the shelves in our Melia paper basket, while magazines and files found a home in some of Design Idea's Mesh storage bins!
Desk
One of the most important things to consider when revamping your home office is what kind of desk you want. Standing desks have been all the rage recently because they promote a healthy lifestyle and are said to increase productivity. Luckily Flexispot offers you a desk where you don’t have to choose standing or sitting- it's adjustable! We could not have been more pleased with our 55 inch L Shaped Computer Desk (natural top). It adds so much functionality and sophistication to the space with its modern edge and technology. Treat yourself to a desk that does it all! We promise you won’t regret it.
Décor
You know we couldn’t create a home office without adding some decorative touches! Some of our favorite additions that gave the room just the flare and personality it needed were:
Plants- whether you decide to go green or artificial, place your plants in some of our favorite woven baskets (both hanging and sitting), or a glass vase.
Floor baskets- these can be so handy in holding miscellaneous items, throw blankets, or even toys for furry friends. They also add a great natural element to the space that is very refreshing.

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/what-do-i-put-on-my-coffee-table2021-02-19T16:30:00-06:002021-02-19T16:30:00-06:00What Do I Put on My Coffee Table?Abby Thomas
If you are like most people you find yourself asking this question every season that you redecorate: what do I put on my coffee table? There are a lot of elements to this question. Are you wanting to incorporate seasonal touches? Do you want it to be practical? Do you want it minimalistic or full? It can feel tedious after a few months of trying to spice things up, so we want to equip you with the tools it takes to have a styled coffee table year round!
First things first: a perfectly styled coffee table doesn't automatically make an entire room look styled. In other words, decorating should extend throughout the entire space so that the coffee table can be accented in the best way possible, bringing the whole room a well-rounded look. So we have a few tips for areas to focus on before tackling your coffee table decor!
1. Fill empty corners with decor that adds height. In this case, we used an artificial fig tree styled in our woven sizable basket. You could also place a blanket ladder here, or perhaps a floor lamp. These items help to make the room feel both cozy and stylish by filling unnecessary dead space.
2. Incorporate cozy elements such as pillows and blankets. A great way to do this is to fill your sofa with different tones and textures of your desired color pallet (this might depend on the season!). Toss throws into a large basket that matches the aesthetic you are trying to create.
3. Get creative! Don't forget that when scrolling Pinterest for inspiration, you should always style your space to fit your lifestyle. This means including elements that fit your personality or hobbies! Simply placing a guitar in the corner of our room immediately brought charisma and uniqueness to our living area, which encourages a social environment.
Now that we have set the tone, we can move onto that nagging question of what to put on your coffee table! To prevent having to switch out the entire tablescape every season, first choose elements that should be a part of every coffee table top instead of focusing on specific items to place on it. For those of you who need more direction and inspiration of what items to use, here are some ideas to consider:
- Candles
- Books/magazines
- Vase (with or without flowers/greenery)
- Baskets
- Trays/bowls
-Coasters
-Photo frames/albums
Element #1: Layers
Whatever you place on the table, make sure that it is not in a straight line. Your items should be staggered to fill the space and so that it will be a pleasing angle no matter where you are in the room.
Element #2: Height
Add height to your table by placing floral stems into a vase or stacking books underneath items you want on display.
Element #3: Weight
One misconception is that surfaces have to be symmetrical in order to look good, when in fact the trick is making sure that the table has an even disbursement of weight. This is not referring to pounds or ounces, but simply just making sure that one side of the table doesn't get crowded with items and leave the other side feeling empty.

After almost three years in our home I’m finally ready to give you a full tour of our family room! This room has come a long way since we built our home back in 2016! I had many plans for this room in the beginning and even with those plans things have changed so much! My style is more defined and I’m starting to really understand how I want the family room to function!
Relaxing
Talking
Reading
Watching TV
Gathering
Eating ( Yes we ( the adults ) eat in the family room sometimes. The kids….um no! ha!)
Once I figured that out, is was easier for me to make choices and decisions!
Family Room Plans
SOFAS AND SECTIONALS
Our family room is anchored with seating and lots of it! We have two large 96 inch sofas with2 chair and halfsthat can fit a parent and child perfectly. I’ve even seen couple cuddle up on our chairs! We are are all about comfort when it comes to lounging in this room so we made sure to spend a lot of time breaking in these sofas and chairs! In our last house we had a nice big sectional ( which we are thinking about getting again) but for this house we opted for two large sofas.
The sofas are from Living Spaces and all though we do love shopping there these sofa are just not living up to the quality we hope they would have. The biggest issues we have is the feathers come out ALL.THE.TIME. I’m constantly picking up feathers. Vacuuming feathers and we have feathers on our clothes and in our hair. So I do NOT recommend them at all until they get them fixed. You’d be better off going with a foam cushion ( if on a budget) or a higher end feather sofa that is wrapped properly!
Our chairs are from Crate and Barrel and have down cushion and I see very few if any feathers from them. I recommend looking at something from ROWE or Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel for sofas. TheRowe kid proof sofaseems like the answer to all my prayers!!! Have you seen the features?
EXTRA SEATING
Besides our sofas and chairs we have extra seating in the form of ottomans and benches. This really comes in handy when we have parties with large groups of people. Guests can pull up a chair from the dining table, an ottoman from the corner, or a bench from behind the sofa! I also love using our side tables as extra seating options! They hide in plain site but add so much function to the space.
LIGHTING
When we built the house we made sure to put recessed lighting in a group of four above the family room area. Above lighting provides enough light for parties and social functions! We also upgraded the lights to thesePhilip Hue light bulbs. This way we can control the lights via an app andAlexafor dimming and atmosphere!
You won’t find any lamps in our family room. At least not yet! But our built ins feature some beautiful lights fromHudson Valley Lighting! They have a hardwired and plug in option which I think is AMAZING!! We power them using led lights with a remote! This adds to the atmosphere of the entire room!
You’ll also noticeour ceiling fandoesn’t have a light kit either. I think it makes the room more streamline!
On the back wall of the family room I have two scones that light up a gallery wall of family photos! It’s one of the first things guests look at when they walk into our home!
RUG
For over thehard tiled floors( that look like wood) I layed down acozy sweater like rug! It feels amazing on bare feet and neutralizes the space well. It has a very quiet pattern that doesn’t really compete with anything in the room but still adds value! The rug does shed but not that much. After a good vacuum it’s under control again. When you’re looking for a rug make sure it’s big enough! A 5×7 may work in some situations ( like right in front of a sectional) but for the most part your rug should be 8×10 or larger. The furniture should sit all the way on it or at least have the front legs touching it!
CURTAINS
Drapes and curtains make rooms looked complete and are usually only decorative. But our drapes are not only decorative but are on a traverse rod making them completely functional! I ordered a custom rod from Smith and Noble to cover our 16 ft sliding door and used ready made drapes to cover them! I used these drapes in my last house and they areTHE best ready made drapesI’ve come across for quality! They are fully lined, heavy and beautifully made to stack nicely! They also come in so many colors it’s hard not to pass on them! Even if you don’t have a sliding door I recommend the 100 inch wide ( double wide) curtains because they look so good stacked a the end of the window!
THROWS AND PILLOWS
It’s just not a family room withoutpillowsand throws! My family room is covered with comfortable pillow and throws for relaxing and lounging! Over the years I have found that down pillows are not the most comfortable to lounge on. These inserts from pottery barn are super comfortable! Also any throw that sheds needs to go! I collect throws throughout the year and hang them right off the family room on hooks. This is one of the most efficient ways to make sure your family room stays clean! So many times my kids and husband didn’t know what to do with the throws! Now they just hang them up!
BUILT IN OR TV CONSOLE
One of the the biggest changes or upgrades we made to our family room were these beautiful custom made built ins! I went back in forth on wanting maybe just one long console with a blank wall or an entire wall covered with bookshelves all the way up to the ceiling! Obviously I choose the later, but I think either one would have looked great! I decided to go the opposite of white and cream shelves and do a dark green finish called Secret Garden by Sherwin Williams. All though this color is trending ( I hate trends…lol) I still do think it will hold up well over time for my personal style! You canorder a peel and stick paint sampleinstead of getting a bucket of paint! Genius.
Our built-ins were made by the team atPublic House Creativehere in Phoenix and they did an amazing job from start to finish. They can do just about anything you want and if they can’t they try to find a way to make it happen! Because they build everything in the shop the installation really only took one day! For bigger projects it might take longer but they really try to be efficient!
The built ins provide all the storage we need in this room! Between the bookshelves and the storage below we have plenty of room to store board games, subwoofer, books, morning hair supplies, photo albums and more!
The coffee table and side tables are also a good storage spot! Under the coffee table is the perfect place for magazines all though I try to keep that clear! Under the side tables baskets are used to store extra pillows and blankets.
SURROUND SOUND
My husband wouldn’t let us build a house without surround sound! He is a big sports and movie guy so creating a min-theater experience was one of his top priorities! We opted to hardwire our system and then installed speakers. We also have throughout the house that all connect to one another and a Sonos bridge connects your hardwire to the rest of the Sonos speakers!
Loved and loving how this space has come together! Looking forward to sharing more of our home with you all! I’m also wanting to give you more updates in a newsletter? Are you interested? What would you like to see?

With February 14 coming closer, our mind is only on one thing: the day before. Galentine's Day is one of our new favorite traditions, which happens to be celebrated February 13. It's a great reminder that our girl time is good for the soul! There's no better way to celebrate our feminine friends than to invite them to an over-the-top brunch or dinner party. Here's everything that should go into your celebration:
COLOR
While all the stores will be overflowing with classic pink and white Valentine's Day decor, get creative and invite all the warm tones to this party! We capitalized on a beautiful mauve table runner and balloons, added in some mustard linen napkins and some red chocolate hearts. Together these colors create a warm environment that is bound to home some sweet memories!
ALCOHOL
Need we say more? Whether it's champaign, wine, or a homemade cocktail – dress those drinks in the prettiest glasses! We have a dimpled Champaign glass coming out later this spring and we cannot get enough!
PHOTO WORTHY DECOR
If there is ever a time to go over-the-top, this is it. Go to a party store and stock up on anything that will make your ladies not want to put their cameras down! We went with festive balloons to spread throughout the event. Plus, we created a dramatic centerpiece by filling our dimpled glass vase with seasonal sprigs. It pulled together all the warm tones while bringing in a boho vibe that the ladies will love!
ALL OUT PLACE SETTINGS
We layered up for this event by not only including our favorite woven charger plates, but also our china dishes on the most beautiful wood plates. We topped them off with knotted napkins and complimentary gold flatware!

When freshening up we also love incorporating some natural tones. We do this best by stocking up on woven baskets, decorating our mantle with a wood grain photo frame and unique, concrete based candles.
Overall, the idea is to make the space seem light and bright! Whether you decide to be subtle with your changes or completely remodel your favorite spots, just make sure it emulates everything that makes you feel like spring is almost here!

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/how-to-host-an-outdoor-movie-night2020-06-04T16:30:00-05:002021-02-19T16:25:53-06:00How to Host an Outdoor Movie NightAbby Thomas
Now that the weather is cooling down, its time to mix things up and invite your dearest friends and family over for a cozy night OUT! Dazzle your guests with a luxurious movie theater set up in your backyard full of pillows, blankets, and their favorite movie snacks.
There are a few things to keep in mind when putting together an event that your guests will never forget. Here is a checklist of what to do to host an outdoor movie night:
1. Seating
This is probably the most important factor to consider when setting up a backyard movie theater, especially considering that you want your guests to be comfortable for a long period of time. Ditch the 'around the fire lawn chairs' and get creative with your seating, providing many options for your movie connoisseurs. At our event, here are a couple different types of comforts that we provided:
-Stylish low lying wicker chair
-A plush papasan
-Cozy spread of blankets and pillows for floor lounging
2. Lighting
While lighting might not seem important for watching the movie, it is important when setting the scene. Moonlight will allow you to follow along with the movie feature, but your added lighting will allow guests to navigate around for bathroom breaks, refreshments, and could even aid in keeping bugs away from the party. Some different types of lighting to consider when hosting a backyard movie night are as follows:
-Tiki torches
-Citronella candles
-Overhead string lights
-Floor lanterns
3. Refreshments
What's a party without food and drinks? Movie nights can be a fun way to break out the candies that everyone used to love as kids. Go to your nearest grocery store and search the aisles for old fashioned movie candy boxes that will get everyone in the movie watching spirit! Of course, you can't forget the popcorn - be prepared with bowls and salt to allow your guests to pass around this classic movie snack. Lastly, think ahead to have drinks such as soda pop, water, or even a seasonal beverage such as an apple cider slush or hot chocolate!
4. Equipment
Before getting too ahead of yourself with planning the stylish accents of the event, don't forget about the basics! In this case, that is making sure you have the equipment necessary to put it on. This includes:
-A projector
-Adapters to hook up to your laptop (to stream the movie)
-Speaker system
-White sheet for movie screen
-Clips to secure the movie screen to a fence/stand
-Tarp to drape underneath blankets/pillows to prevent lawn stains, bugs, or moisture from disturbing your lounging guests.

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/fall-bonfire-essentials2020-05-27T17:00:00-05:002021-02-19T16:35:57-06:00Fall Bonfire EssentialsAbby Thomas
Get ready because these upcoming October weeks are about to be full of costume parties, haunted houses, pumpkin patch visits, cozy nights in, and of course, bonfires. Hopefully you are able to host an evening with friends and family to take advantage of cool weather and seasonal treats! If so, we have you covered on all of the essentials for your next fall bonfire.
The first thing to think about (which could seem a bit obvious) is the fire! Will you choose to gather around a fire pit in a backyard, light a huge one on a piece of private property for everyone to stand around, or go outside the box and buy a fire pit that sits on top of your outdoor table? We highly suggest the latter. It's cozy, unique, comfortable, and no need to worry about the kiddos getting too close.
While everyone looks forward to roasting marshmallows over an open flame, there are so many other seasonal snacks that you could take advantage of this fall, and your guests will be glad you did. Along with s'mores supplies, slice up some apples and serve them next to an old fashioned caramel dip (we wont judge you if it's store bought), have apple cider or hot chocolate to drink, and perhaps even a warm pumpkin treat! The possibilities are endless, as is our appetite for all things fall.
It can be fun to think about everyone all cozied up trying to get warm around a fire, but don't let that stop you from giving your guests other options for comfort. Go above and beyond by bringing out baskets full of throw blankets and even placing some pillows on the chairs. The more comfortable your guests are, the longer the night will last!
Lastly, take this opportunity to spice up your patio or backyard scene with some stylish touches to really bring the night together. The perfect companion for outdoor entertaining? Lanterns. Secondary lighting can bring a space to a whole new level of cozy. Place different sized lanterns around the entertaining area, and even drape some bulbs overhead to bring in some more warm light.

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/how-to-freshen-up-your-laundry-room2020-03-13T15:30:00-05:002021-02-19T15:15:53-06:00How to Freshen Up Your Laundry RoomAbby Thomas
While most people don't get excited about doing laundry, there isn't much that compares to the feeling when you have a laundry room that has an inviting aesthetic. We are learning that the more personality you can pour into a space, the more likely you are to end up there. Maybe all it takes to keep up with your chores is freshening up your space! Here are some of our favorite ways to sprinkle in some beautiful touches to your laundry room:
1. Effortless organizers
Like most, we want our everyday tools organized and accessible. That is why we love the idea of organizing some laundry room products out in the open where they are easy to get to but don't make the space look cluttered or disheveled. Other items that aren't needed for every wash cycle can be tucked away.
We stored our drier balls and clothing clips in what would typically be used as drawer organizers, but these work great as a tabletop accessory as well. Our powdered laundry detergent works great in a glass jar, Where it can stay fresh, be within arm’s reach for every wash cycle and look good. In addition, storing detergent in a glass jar allows you to buy in bulk and save on plastic and other materials. Just another little way you can go green! Find our Java Organizers here: https://texxturehome.com/pages/search-results-page?q=java
2. Potted plants
We never let an opportunity to style potted plants slip by. Having high shelves with a little bit of open space created the perfect spot to display a hanging plant such as the one pictured below. Bringing greenery inside is always a great way to make a room feel fresh, what better room to freshen up than the laundry room?
3. Organic materials that are kind to your clothes
If you've been on our blog before, you know we are passionate about organic and recycled materials. We think that household essentials should be kind to you and the planet. That is why all the materials we used to organize, store and decorate this room have a history!
Our natural braided organizers are made from Javanese grass that is designed to stand up to wear, tear and time.
The woven Maiz basket is great for bringing clothes back and forth from rooms or storing essentials. It is made from the dried leaves of harvested corn plants and spun into twine to make for the perfect companion and accessory to any room!
We paired the Maiz basket with a complimentary clay colored Melia basket (both regular and hanging), which are made from natural woven jute. They are perfect and reliable catch-all baskets!
The laundry basket (which can have many other functions as well) is made from water hyacinth reeds that clog the rivers and waterways of Thailand unless culled and dried into long sturdy strands. After weaving a “mat” of the material we fold it and form it into the basket you see here!
Not everything has to be natural and neutral toned! This space is made unique from the pop of color brought in from the door, which is coordinated with everything else with a beautiful and durable rug.

We are lucky to live in an age that is flooding with companies and brands that are aware of the impact that our everyday habits have on our planet (Design Ideas is PROUD to be one of them). There are so many great products on the market that make it easy for us to make simple changes that could have a big impact. Here are five changes that you can make TODAY to switch up your routine to be more eco-friendly!
#1 Transfer Your Cleaning Products to Reusable Glass Bottles
The large amount of plastic that makes its way into our home has a lot to do with the products that get everyday use, such as soaps and cleaning products. Making the simple change to buy these cleaners in bulk and transfer them to arecycled glass spray bottlewould make a big difference. Label your cleaning products and set up an easy access display as an added bonus! We styled our kitchen cleaner in our favorite eco-friendly woven basket, which is made out of dried leaves from harvested corn plants.
#2 Make Your Own Latte
This one might sound silly, but if you knew how often we did a coffee run you would understand! Here's why it made the cut:
When you make your latte at home, that's one less car ride and one less plastic cup, lid and straw! Also, you could save your money to stock up on some of these adorable glass mugs. If you prefer using a straw to sip your beverage, try out some reusable straws like these bamboo ones! We have some coming out later this spring; be excited!
#3 Try Out Reusable Beeswax Food Wrap
Food storage is a huge issue when it comes to being eco-friendly. In a world where everything comes in a plastic bag, here is one great way to store your food to make it keep longer!Beeswax Food Wrapis a natural food storage alternative to plastic wrap, so now you can store your leftovers without the guilt. It comes in various sizes and can be used over and over for up to a year!
#4 Invest In These Universal-Use Silicone Bags
We use baggies for just about everything. Whether it's to pack a lunch or store and organize trinkets, silicone bagsare the way to go. These non-toxic bags are dishwasher and microwave safe, and endlessly reusable. So, they can basically take anything you can throw at them (or in them).
#5 Say Goodbye to Water Bottles
This tip isn't anything new, but might be one of the hardest habits to break. For those of us who prefer chilled water, these glass decanter carafe bottles are the way to go. Are you noticing the 'glass trend' here? They are reusable, effective, and stylish. Break them out when there is company or on a seasonably warm day, and pat yourself on the back for all of the plastic you managed to avoid!

If you’re anything like me, you spend a great deal of your time in the kitchen. The kitchen is not only where we cook; it is also a place where friends and family gather and where I spend my mornings working. Since I spend so much time there, I have done my best to develop a system to stay organized. You can even download myfree printable checklistfor easy kitchen organization!
Isn’t it funny how one second the kitchen (or house for that matter) can be tidy and spotless, and the next, turned upside down? Making sure that you can easily organize and pick-up after a messy breakfast or decadent dinner will help keep you feeling calm make everyday life a little bit easier.
Organizing your kitchen is streamlined by having a designated place for everything to live. Simplify this process with baskets, containers, and bins so that you can easily group similar things together, and keep your kitchen organized!
This is especially helpful if you have traditional cupboards where things seem to get lost in the back. Having a container or shallow basket is an easy way to store loose items like cans of tomato sauce or bags of nuts corralled.
Here are a few of my favorite tips and tricks to keeping your kitchen organized:
TIP #1: GATHER A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SIZED BINS AND CONTAINERS FROM AROUND YOUR HOUSE.
Some of my favorite containers to use areshallow wooden baskets, crocks, and large jars or crocks. These are great options to store everyday items like wooden spoons, kitchen towels, and plates!
TIP #2: REMOVE PANTRY GOODS FROM THEIR PACKAGING AND PLACE THEM IN LARGE JARS OR GLASS CONTAINERS.
Large jarsand glass containers make everything look more cohesive and is an inexpensive way to achieve an organized pantry. You can save money by buying in bulk and even reduce your footprint by bringing the containers to the grocery store and filling up on your ingredients there!
TIP #3: HAVE DESIGNATED DRAWERS OR CUPBOARDS FOR SIMILAR ITEMS AND GO THROUGH THEM REGULARLY TO CHECK EXPIRATION DATES.
Often times things like coconut milk or other perishable pantry items can sit in our cupboards for years without us realizing it. Organizing instorage binsalso helps you keep a better inventory of what you have on hand so that you don’t overbuy ingredients.
TIP #4: CONTAINERS AND BINS ARE GREAT TO HELP ORGANIZE YOUR COUNTERTOP SPACE AS WELL.
I love to use shallow trays paired with crocks and vases to help everything look more put together on my countertops. Large vintage crocks are a fun way to store utensils that add a little character as well. If you have a kitchen island, this is a beautiful was to decorate the island with functional kitchen tools!
TIP #5: KEEP ALL OF YOUR KITCHEN LINENS IN A LARGE BASKET UNDERNEATH YOUR KITCHEN ISLAND OR WHEREVER YOU HAVE SPACE.
It’s nice to have your linens within easy reach ina large basketwhen you’re setting up for a dinner party, and it can add a welcoming feel to a kitchen.

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/a-fall-inspired-tablescape-for-this-years-friendsgiving2019-11-16T15:30:00-06:002020-11-21T15:29:59-06:00A Fall Inspired Tablescape for This Year's FriendsgivingRanda Hinds
Whether your family is out of town and can't make the trip for the holidays, or you simply have a group of friends that you love spending time with and want an excuse to celebrate: let's talk Friendsgiving!
This year we are spicing things up with an outdoor fall inspired tablescape. After using our tips and tricks to set the scene, fill it with some of your favorite dishes, surround it with some of your favorite people and sit back and enjoy this trending fall tradition.
First things first: choose your fall inspired color pallet!
Our colors of choice:
Green
Copper/Rust
Yellow
Brown
Grey
We made these colors come alive with different table decor including a tablecloth, dishes, votives, candles, and vases full of some seasonal colored sprigs! You can get creative in how you bring in color, such as choosing food options that compliment your theme (because why not use tasty treats as decor?).
Next, set the table.
The difference is in the details. That is why we chose to decorate the table with unique items like gold silverware, textured woven placemats and painted clay dishes to add to the aesthetic.
Fill it up!
Don't be shy when putting together the centerpiece to this Friendsgiving tablescape. To keep things from looking oddly placed, add some height and balance to the table. This means strategically clustering your decor items that are different sizes to add dimension, but making sure that the table is balanced from one end to the other. In order to avoid the centerpiece looking flat, consider placing some items such as candles, vases or dishes on a riser.
Get creative with textures.
One of our favorite things about this table setting is all of the different textures that can be found. Linen, wicker, dimpled glass, metal, concrete and wood. Some of the accents to specifically note are our woven chairs, unique green vases and wooden accent table decor such as our riser and bowl.
Enjoy your company.
While it's fun to get caught up in the decor and details of the night, the most important thing is to enjoy your company. Invite your closest friends to dine under the lights in your backyard and spend the evening reminiscing or making plans for the future. It will be a night that they will never forget!

https://texxturehome.com/blogs/tales-of-texxture/college-housewifes-la-rental-kitchen-makeover2019-11-08T16:00:00-06:002020-11-21T16:00:49-06:00College Housewife's LA Rental Kitchen MakeoverRanda Hinds
For the last couple of years, I’ve really taken a love of fixing up my rental houses. When I say fix up, I’m talkingrental friendly upgradesthat make a big impact. I truly believe that if you’re going to live in a house for longer than a year, it shouldfeel like yourswhether you own it or not. It’s not just a house,it’s your home.
It’s no surprise that younger people (yes, Millennials) are taking a bit longer to buy a home as the prices are becoming more and more competitive. Here in southern California, we compete with huge price tags and all-cash offers. Our rental home alone is worth 750K! The down payment alone will set you back a few years. I definitely fall victim to this, as well as most of my gals. I’ve learned to love all my rental homes despite any stipulation. Each of my rentals have all felt like, home.
Things like a fresh coat of paint, hardware changes, and personalized furniture and textiles go a loooong way. I’m no interior designer but the whole makeover process makes me giddy. I have been itching to get another room project under my belt and I knew thatmy assistant Abbie’s Pasadena kitchen would be my next venture.
Abbie is my full-time assistant and we have also been friends since we were 12. We were on the photo team together for Yearbook club in high school and now take on huge photography productions together. Her kitchen deserved to be something special! She loves to cook and entertain and I wanted her space to be equipped to do that. We had a variety of plans that really helped this rental kitchen makeover stay budget-friendly, semi-permanent, and totally match Abbie’s style…
SO, WHAT’S THE DESIGN PROCESS LIKE ON ARENTAL?!
My first step was to make sure that I totally and 100% captured the look and feel of exactly what Abbie wanted. This is a rental, after all, so choosing ‘upgrades’ doesn’t always mean you will get exactly what you want but I wanted to come as close to ‘dream kitchen’ as I could.
I asked her a few questions that would help me get the overall look and feel, she came back with adjectives like:
Comfortable | Clean | Eclectic | Funky | White | Personalized | Modern
“I’m so excited about this makeover! I’m hoping for a clean, comfy space that my roommates and I will actually want to make dinner and hang out in! I know Elizabeth understands my style and will make it beautiful.”
Mission accepted!
We were starting to get somewhere but I had one more idea up my sleeve to truly grasp the look and feel of what reflected Abbie’s personality…
I had her take the Sherwin- WilliamsColorSnap ® Color IDquiz. It’s a short quiz where you answer fun questions that reflect your personality (I love a good online quiz!). Afterward, you receive a personality-based color collection (which was a perfect tool for me when designing Abbie’s kitchen!). Abbie ended up being a ‘Free Spirit‘ which described traits of Abbie’s personality – unique and daring, walking to the beat of their own drum. The palette has 16 colors that were perfectly coordinated, inspired by world travel and defined by bold blues and greens, with balancing tans and pinks which allowed us to mix and match with confidence.
Once we selected her colors, I dove deep into the mood board and planning process (my FAV part!)
This is themood boardfor her kitchen…made very formally in powerpoint:
The bones of her kitchen were very workable. Her space is small, but luckily has a ton of natural light flowing into the kitchen and dining room areas. The trick with rentals is finding a way to change things in a semi-permanent way.
Pros: -Natural light -Good condition -Lots of open wall space
Cons: -Dark tiles -Weird configuration -Small space
The paint job was one of the smaller investments, but hands down, it made the biggest change and transformed the entire space. One of the other big problems that you often have as a renter, is working with the existing tiles. Abbie absolutely hated the tile and was hoping to cover it as much as possible. We used these easypeel and stick tilesto develop a clean, fresh look that helped brighten the entire space (more on this to come!).
WHAT KIND OF KITCHEN UPGRADES DID YOU MAKE?
The biggest investment pieces that we bought were the newhardwarefor the cabinets and thelight fixtures. In the long run, these were the biggest price tagged items but they are also things that Abbie can switch out and take with her to her next home.
Pro renter tip* Save anything that you replace in a rental kitchen makeover and put it back on once you decide to move. This will ensure you get your security deposit while changing the home to your taste.
HER KITCHEN FEELS MINIMAL BUT STILL WARM AND COZY… HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!
Ah, the power of warm colors and cozy textures. Using raw wood furniture like pine helped bring warmth and minimalism at the same time, plus it was affordable.
Choosing colors like pinks, yellows, and creams brought out warmth to space as well. Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap ® Color ID really helped us bring the entire palette together – with colors that complimented each other. The trick is to keep the big stuff like shelving, and furniture pieces more neutral. Afterward, you can come in and layer fun colorful pieces like glassware, plants, and knick-knacks.
SO…DOES ABBIE LOVE HER NEW KITCHEN?
Ah! I sure hope so. It took all of my woman-power to remove myself and my taste from the kitchen so I really enveloped her style into it.
If you’re thinking about sprucing up a room in your rental, have no fear. It’s beyond worth it. This small rental kitchen makeover has made a huge difference in Abbie’s house and her life. She plans on living in this place for at least another year and being in a place that she is inspired by instantly lifts her mood and makes her proud to have people over.
Set a budget for yourself, be realistic and have a solid plan before you get going!

Traditions are one of those things that are so important to family structure. At times if feels like the might be the glue that holds your family together and sometimes those memories that you make each year can shape your family's stories for generations to come.
One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions each year is to do a turkey bowl. My husband gathers up some of his good friends and they play in a tournament Thanksgiving morning at the local park. This year, we will be doing the same thing, except he will be taking my boys and they will play at a park a few houses down with some other dads. It's such a fun tradition to watch grow every year!
I'm never afraid to add new holiday traditions to the family so this year we are doing a Thankful Tree. If you're not familiar with a Thankful Tree, it's a tree that sits in the midst of Thanksgiving festivities, and as guests arrive, they are asked to write down what they are thankful for on a leaf and hang it on the tree. The "tree" can be anything from simple branches, make a wall hung tree made of paper, or this one from Design Ideas is beautiful and makes a big statement!
To make a Thankful Tree, you will need the following items:
10-20 die cut leaves
String or ribbon
Hole punch
Pen
Tree and/or branches
First, I cut out leaves using our craft cutting machine, but you can purchase them pre-made at your local craft store. Then, I had the kids write a few "ideas" so it could get our guests thinking what they were thankful for.
Next, the kids helped string each one of the leaves with ribbon...
and hung them up for everyone to enjoy!
You can leave a basket of blank leaves at the front entry or even at the buffet table and as guests arrive, ask them to participate. It's awesome to see what everyone is thankful for! It's such a simple Thanksgiving craft!

Fall Soiree Theme: Favorite Things Dinner Party
The fall is a perfect time to invite your friends over for a good time! Each year I throw a favorite things party for my girlfriends and it’s something we all look forward too! Although I’m not throwing one this year I have all the details in these posts! So make sure you check them out.
Dinner parties aren’t dinner parties without a table setting! Simple or elaborate, setting the table for your guests sets the mood for the entire night! This table I set says, let’s have FUN and I’m so glad you’re here! For the most part I leave the seating arrangements open, especially if it’s a group of girlfriends who know each other! But you might want to think about seating arrangements if your guests aren’t familiar with each other!
Down the middle I lit tapered candles in black candlesticks along with a small arrangement of flowers in pumpkin vases. I love to use different heights when I set the table and keep visibility across the table. I also brought in fall colors using warm wooden risers and pinecones scattered throughout the table.
Each table setting is stacked with a black charger, textured plate and a word of affirmation print. I made to let each person know how much they mean to me. To make it even more personal you can write a small note on the back and they can take it home as a keepsake!
Plan the Menu
When you’re planning a dinner party, the menu is a big part of the plan. My favorite things party usually involves a potluck. I do this for a couple of reasons. One because it’s so much easier on me, the hostess! ha! We can be real here right?! Cooking for more than 12 guests can be exhausting!! So I get all the help I can.
I also love the potluck style menu because you get to try new recipes. Everyone has a few recipes the love to share or make for parties like this. I can’t tell you how many recipes I’ve picked up from my friends bringing something they love to a party!
If you don’t want to do a potluck style menu you can also get the party catered or do something simple like a cheese board and light appetizers! You can also add desserts likechocolate cakeand specialty drinks like the Best Punch EVER orcoffee punch!
Decorate
Now for the fun part! After you’ve set the table, put up a few festive decorations. I recently added this fun banner to my shop! In the past I’ve used them for fall and Christmas but I decided to make one especially for a favorite things party just like this!
You can also hang streamers, balloons and other items to really make this party special. No need to go overboard. Just do what you can and STOP when things look nice! I promise you you’re friends are NOT over to judge you decorating. They are there to have a good time with you. Make the night about good conversation and smiles above anything else!

There is a new trend circulating through the baby world. While some choose to go all out in theming their baby's nursery with bold colors or figurines, there is another option for those of us who would like to keep it a bit more neutral. Whether you aren't finding out the gender until the baby is born, or want to keep the style consistent with the rest of your house, here is our take on a neutral and natural "themed" nursery and why we think it is one of the best trends of the year!
1. Neutral colors typically allow for a space to look bigger.
Have you ever walked into a room that has a bold color on the wall (such as red, black, bright green/blue, etc.) and immediately felt a bit claustrophobic? That's because some colors bring more attention to the size of the room rather than being a background to the items inside the room. If you are working with a small room for your nursery but want a bit of 'pop', consider doing a statement wall and choose one wall to display your color of choice!
2. A natural look is great for both a boy and girl room.
Some people think that if you go for a neutral look then you miss out on all of the cute little boy or girl trends, such as decorating with flowers, rainbows, trucks or animals. But one benefit of the majority of the room not being gender specific is that while you can add in those feminine or masculine touches, the room could easily transform for the next baby that comes along- no matter the gender! Or after the first couple years it could transition into a playroom or other living space without having to change too much.
For this neutral themed boy's room, we added in little touches such as a vintage painting of child football players on the wall, placed in some stuffed animals and displayed some darker colored accents in boy patterns/colors such as books and swaddle blankets.
3. Neutral doesn't necessarily mean colorless. It just allows for your colors of choice to make a subtle statement.
If we had to choose a color "theme" for this nursery, it would be:
sage green
mustard/rust
We worked in those colors amongst the grays, whites, creams and browns which allows for our colors of choice to be noticed but not scream "look at me!". It makes for a softer and cozier baby room.
4. A neutral and natural nursery gives you the excuse to buy all kinds of woven baskets for storage and decor.
If you scroll through Pinterest for five minutes, walk through a home store or peek onto our lifestyle blog then you will notice a trend: woven baskets. They are universal! You could stick them in any corner of your home and not only are they practical for storage, but they act as home accents. The same goes for your nursery. We used some of our favorite woven baskets (different colors, shapes, sizes and weaves to add some variety) to both decorate and store everyday baby items.
Speaking of universal storage, we loved using these different sized clear boxes as drawer storage for clothes, socks and accessories!
5. Natural looking decor and furniture is easy to DIY.
Even if you aren't the craftiest person or have never picked up a hammer, natural themed rooms allow for a little wiggle room on the quality of decor. For instance, this home shelf was built out of scrap wood one Saturday and is one of the sweetest touches in the room! It pulls together the other white and wood accents such as the wicker side table, dresser and the crib with wood legs. It also will function as a hanging playhouse for the kids to play with when they get older. That is just one example of the projects that could take place; the possibilities are endless!

The day that leaves start changing colors and the weather cools down it's officially time to grab your sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and recipe box! Fall is here and we are prepared to spend countless hours in the kitchen baking pumpkin bread, apple pies, cookies and pastries. Here are a few things to add to your shopping list besides the classic fall baking ingredients!
#1 Kitchen Drawer Storage
We are loving all of the natural metals that are trending in homes, so what better way to organize our drawers than with sleek copper drawer organizers? They make prep and baking both easy and stylish. Simply grab the organizers that you need for your recipe and get to work! Your countertops will thank you.
#2 Extra Shelving Specific to the Season
Buying seasonal dishes and utensils can be so tempting, but most ask the question, "who has the space?". The answer: those who MAKE the space. We suggest having a separate shelf or hutch that you can dress with seasonal decor and kitchen essentials. We styled ours with natural/metal tones, serving platters/cutting boards, and our best looking drinkware and dishes to encourage entertaining this fall!
#3 Practical Tabletop Decor
With all the effort going into these delicious seasonal treats and dishes, you had better have a fun way to display them! Make sure you have a go-to serving platter on hand, a fresh handful of fall flowers, and some sprinkled-in decor such as votives and candles.

Not every backyard party has to be paper plates and solo cups, and not every backyard party has to have someone constantly manning the grill. It can be simpler and enjoyable for everyone involved! Here is our refreshing take on hosting a late summer evening that your guests will love!
Where does every good party start? The food of course! Keeping your company full and hydrated is your main responsibility when hosting a summer evening. Instead of grabbing hot dogs, buns and chips at the store, wow your guests with a refreshing and colorful assortment of fruit! Believe it or not, this can be your main dish. When sitting around a table and watching the sun go down, having foods that your guests can pick over while conversing is the priority. Add some fun drink pairings to your fruit choices, such as a spicy ginger beer, or a favorite cocktail.
The next order of business to throwing a perfect summer sioree is setting the scene. Make your guests feel special by setting a festive table. All it takes is a few fun items to make the space seem full and summery, such as our boho inspired wicker placemat, linen napkins, and colorful silverware and drink glasses.
Lastly, sprinkle in the final touches. Having greenery or plants on the table always helps when shooting for a summery vibe. Style your favorite succulents as part of the centerpiece and pair them with different candlelight options (or perhaps bug repellant candles) to make sure the conversation doesn't have to end when the sun goes down!
